Hongdae Sheep Cafe – Hello Nature Cafe Seoul

If there is one thing I absolutely love about Korea it’s the abundance of wacky themed cafes which can be found in every city. I honestly believe that they have thought of EVERYTHING, and if they haven’t no doubt whatever wacky cafe you are imagining in your head right now will soon be in existence here. The only place with crazier cafes in Taiwan, but that’s a whole other story!

During my time in this wonderful nation I have; sipped a hot chocolate out of a Hello Kitty Cup while sitting on a pink Hello Kitty Seat inside a pink Hello Kitty Cafe; spent an afternoon dressing up as a princess, accompanied by my friends who were also prancing around as princesses, swapping tiaras and sipping on non-alcoholic cocktails in a Princess Dairy Cafe; spent an afternoon playing Monopoly and Risk in a Board Game cafe; spent half an hour (that was my limit!!) in a Cat Cafe where real, live cats wandered around purring, rubbing against my leg and begging for food while I tried to mind my own business and drink my delicious tea; and even spent an evening in a “couples cafe” which is full of 2-seated rocking chairs where you can rock back and forth while sipping on a fruit smoothie feeling suitable smug in your “perfect relationship”.

As Korea has such a HUGE population in relation to its landmass, there really isn’t a lot of farmland to be seen. Also, as most Koreans live in multi-story apartment blocks, keeping pets other than a gold-fish or a hamster can prove problematic. This does not stop the Koreans though…far from it. Why bring the animals to you when you can bring yourself to the animals! Korea has Cat Cafes where you can pet and have staring competitions with evil creatures…Oooops I mean with cats, they have Dog Cafes where you can cuddle cute puppies and not have to worry about cleaning up after them, and as I discovered last weekend…they have a SHEEP CAFE, otherwise known as Thanks Nature Cafe.

That’s right, BANG in the middle of Hongdae, the happening and hip nightlife district of Seoul, you can buy a cup of dutch coffee, served in an old jam jar(!!), scoff down a seriously delicious waffle, and if you feel like it, spend time with the 2 sheep which also spend their days at the cafe! You can “interact” with them by feeding or petting them or simply sit back and watch them go about their daily business. Except, you know, in a cafe.

You gotta love Korea!
